AIR POLLUTION:

There are five major primary air pollutants: hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulates. When these primary pollutants are together in the presence of sunlight, a complex series of reactions take place which produce various harmful secondary pollutants including nitrogen dioxide, and peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN). These reactions produce what is known as photochemical smog (NOX, SOX) which leads to Acid Rain. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are also of major concern since they contribute to the destruction of high-altitude Ozone.
